Be sure to check out our store for a great collection of Muslim products!

It is prohibited for a man to shave his beard, and it is disliked for him to take more than a fist length from his beard. And the sunnah is for him to strongly trim his mustache, such that it is not quite totally shaved, but trimmed very short.

(Al-Rawdh al-Murbi’)

So in other words, the official position of the school is as follows:

  1. More than or equal to fist length beard = Sunnah (recommended)

  2. Less than fist length = Makrooh (disliked)

  3. Total shaving = Haram (prohibited)

  4. Short trimming of mustache = Sunnah (recommended)
